Great for a group

I recently organised a stay here for a group of 20. From the moment we arrived to when we left, the service was excellent. The management, reception staff and especially the dining room staff were very ... friendly. Our stay was very reasonable with getting bed, breakfast, 4 course dinner & use of the leisure centre for E79. The bedroom was very comfortable & clean, with a wonderful view of the countryside. The dinner menu was very impressive and the meal, lasting over 3 hours, was very tasty. They were very accommodating as we kept on changing our numbers and this was no problem. The leisure club was spotless. I forgot to bring both a towel & swimming cap and they provided me with both. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, even though we did not arrive down until 10.45. I would like to thank the staff of the Carlton for their excellent service and compliment them on a wonderful hotel. ---

Fri night

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and gorgeously comfy room. Also breakfast was delicious. My main issue was with the food. we opted for the e59 deal that included overnight stay and a 4 course meal. On ... arrival staff were very attentive, however we got a surprise when we found the bottle of wine we had ordered with our meal, in our room. It was also not the bottle we had selected online, and it was a bit strange carrying a bottle of wine into the restaurant with us! The menu in the restaurant read beautifully, but when the food came out it was very disappointing. the trout starter was overcooked and the ham hock was cold and greasy. Also the pesto dressing did nothing to enhance the flavours of the ham. We waited for 40 minutes for our mains to arrive, and when they did, my brill was overcooked and soggy and the steak was tough and done well beyond the medium to well request. I felt like we should have returned it and asked to have it served in a stew it was so tough! The sauce on the brill had begun to congeal as though left under the hotlamp in the kitchen for longer than it should have. Dessert and coffee were nice, as were the vegetables. Also-and it's a small thing perhaps, but one that i don't like having been a waitress myself-our waiter didn't write down our order for our mains, which left us wondering if the order had been received when we were waiting for so long. Also the waiter appeared rushed and under pressure which is why we mumbled 'fine' when asked if everything was ok. The food really let down what was otherwise a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. The menu suggests that the chefs are extremely inventive, but it was the basics that left down this meal. I think a bistro style restaurant where simple food is cooked well would afford a much better review from me on my return! ---

Thank you for your e-mail and feedback regarding your recent visit with us. I am disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your meal with us. I have discussed your comments with the chef and would like to apologise to you for the poor quality of your meal. The standard of food served in our restaurant is normally extremely high and feed back very positive and as such I am surprised at your experience. I would hope that this experience would not put you off returning to us and would like to offer you a complimentary upgrade on your next visit. Please contact me by return should you wish to book again so that I may personally look after your reservation. Kind Regards John McGrath General Manager
Fabulous Overnight Break Away From The City

The relaxing natural surroundings, beautiful modern rooms, lobby, spa and pool facilities were a welcome treat for my husband and I on a short stay away from the city. We booked with the dinner for two ... and stay free promotion, and with the savings it gave us enough to both get massages at the spa. The food was great, the view was perfect, and the peace and quiet was very much appreciated. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We look forward to another break there and tell everyone what a nice time we had. ---

Excellent Experience beautiful location

We stayed at the Carlton end March and could not fault the staff or hotel in any way. The views were beautiful, the leisure facilities were excellent and the restaurant was a gastronomic heaven! I would definitely recommend the hotel and have been singing the praises of the place since we got home.

Hidden gem

Wow, superb hotel in gorgeous setting, the view is breathtaking. Was on business and this was lovely to relax in the evening. Staff are great and the prices are brilliant. Overall 5 stars, won't stay anywhere else in Cork now.

Excellent Hotel

We stayed for four nights and found the Carlton Hotel in Kinsale was excellent in regard to staff, location, food, service, hospitality and facilities. Our only concern was in relation to dinner prices ... in the restaurant as they appeared to be slightly overpriced and this may be related to an offer of free accommodation for those who had dinner. Otherwise, well done to everyone involved on this well run hotel. ---

Good

check in was good but i found the arrival letter very informal explanation of the facilities would be so much better we were having to look around for everything. TV chanels very limited also the pool ... area etc was not explained so we did not use it because it was outside the hotel rather than in. the food was good not much variety though. all staff were exceptional at their job so pleasant.the bar decor felt like a hall rather than a relaxing place to drink. I would return as it is a lovely hotel but some areas need improvement ---

Thank you for your e-mail and feedback regarding your recent visit. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. I have noted your comments about the welcome letter have discussed it with my Front Office manager with regard to revising this procedure. With regard to the television channels, we do provide an interactive television and internet service with a full range of up to date movies as well as music channels along with the regular terrestrial channels. We do have plans to move and refurbish our bar in order to make better use of the wonderful views over Oysterhaven. It is a shame that you did not get to use our Leisure centre and C-Spa which is located within the hotel itself, directly below the reception area. Again, the location of this should have been explained to you at check in time, please accept my apologies for the lack of communication. Once again, thank you for your comments and feedback. I look forward to welcoming you back to the Carlton Kinsale. Kind Regards John McGrath General Manager
Dinner & Stay Free

Myself and five friends had the dinner and stay free deal and it was outstanding value. We were most impressed with the menu as we were expecting something less exciting and with less choice. Nice ... touches with homemade cookies free with coffee. We were lucky to receive vouchers which entitled us to reductions on wine, spa treatments and breakfast making our overnight even more enjoyable and good value. Great food, beautiful rooms, relaxing spa and pleasant staff. All in all a great marketing idea as the hotel was buzzing which would probably not be the case in the month of March. The only negative would be the bar, the location is terrible with no views but that is a design problem. ---

Fourth visit

Quality of the food in the restaurant has greatly diminished since our first visit three years ago. Pool no longer supplies wet bags or soap. Still a lovely experience and staff extremely friendly.

Thank you for your e-mail and feedback regarding your recent visit. I am disappointed to read that you feel the quality of food has diminished, we still have the same chef in the kitchen and he has been putting a lot of work into creating dishes using locally sourced meats & seafood. I have spoken with the team in the leisure centre regarding the wet bags and the soap. I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit, repeat guests such as yourselves are the mainstay of our business and our best source of quality feedback. I look forward to welcoming you back to the Carlton Kinsale. Kind Regards John McGrath General Manager
Brilliant weekend...

Was exceptionally pleased with everything during our stay. The views were exceptional from the room. The food and wine were amazing and the service from the reception to the restaurant and bar staff was ... second to none. Will definitely recommend the hotel to family and friends. The facilities were great and the fact that the courtesy bus made an extra trip to facilitate of party was wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be returning ---
