Lovely hotel

Really nice large clean room overlooking the front gardens. The food in the restaurant was fantastic for both dinner and breakfast. The leisure facilities were superb and the pool area was spotless. The ... only bad points were the bar completely lacked atmosphere we came back from the town for a night cap and were sorry we had! Kinsale is about 10 mins in a taxi and it costs about €12 there is a complimentary shuttle but the times never really suited us. All in all a fantastic hotel for sleeping food and leisure evening fun is better sought out in the town. ---

Lovely Hotel

Lovely Hotel, staff were very friendly & helpful. Bar food very good plus restaurant very good food too. Got few spa treatments "Mum to Be" it was heaven, treatments were not rushed and staff very ... professional. Our room was in the front of hotel lovely view of the gorgeous waterfall, views from back of hotel very scenic.Hotel only 10 mins drive to Kinsale town but that wasn't a problem as the hotel provided a shuttle bus to and from hotel. Would definitely stay here again. ---

Perfect break

We travelled over with Stena who booked this lovely hotel for us as part of a deal . From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome from every member of staff . The fantastic view from our ... room was a sight to behold . It was the quietest hotel room that we have ever stayed in . This well designed hotel has all the bedrooms on one side and the social rooms and restaurant on the other . They are joined by the marvelous reception atrium with a walk-way and spiral staircase . The leisure facilities are also well designed with the hot tub/jacuzzi being my favourite. The C Spa was a lovely treat and a perfect end to an amazing holiday .We stayed for 6 nights and only ate out in Kinsale once (meal at a well known establishment was a big disappointment). All our other meals were eaten at the hotel as they were so well prepared , presented and more importantly just absolutely delicious .We hope to return in the autumn . ---

Fri night

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and gorgeously comfy room. Also breakfast was delicious. My main issue was with the food. we opted for the e59 deal that included overnight stay and a 4 course meal. On ... arrival staff were very attentive, however we got a surprise when we found the bottle of wine we had ordered with our meal, in our room. It was also not the bottle we had selected online, and it was a bit strange carrying a bottle of wine into the restaurant with us! The menu in the restaurant read beautifully, but when the food came out it was very disappointing. the trout starter was overcooked and the ham hock was cold and greasy. Also the pesto dressing did nothing to enhance the flavours of the ham. We waited for 40 minutes for our mains to arrive, and when they did, my brill was overcooked and soggy and the steak was tough and done well beyond the medium to well request. I felt like we should have returned it and asked to have it served in a stew it was so tough! The sauce on the brill had begun to congeal as though left under the hotlamp in the kitchen for longer than it should have. Dessert and coffee were nice, as were the vegetables. Also-and it's a small thing perhaps, but one that i don't like having been a waitress myself-our waiter didn't write down our order for our mains, which left us wondering if the order had been received when we were waiting for so long. Also the waiter appeared rushed and under pressure which is why we mumbled 'fine' when asked if everything was ok. The food really let down what was otherwise a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. The menu suggests that the chefs are extremely inventive, but it was the basics that left down this meal. I think a bistro style restaurant where simple food is cooked well would afford a much better review from me on my return! ---

Thank you for your e-mail and feedback regarding your recent visit with us. I am disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your meal with us. I have discussed your comments with the chef and would like to apologise to you for the poor quality of your meal. The standard of food served in our restaurant is normally extremely high and feed back very positive and as such I am surprised at your experience. I would hope that this experience would not put you off returning to us and would like to offer you a complimentary upgrade on your next visit. Please contact me by return should you wish to book again so that I may personally look after your reservation. Kind Regards John McGrath General Manager

Loved staying in carlton kinsale. As usual the hotel was excellent in keeping with the standard we have enjoyed in some of your other hotels. Location was superb, food excellent, staff courteous and highly efficient. Shuttle service into Kinsale town is a real plus. Keep up the fantastic job you're doing.

What a really enjoyable family break!

We recently stayed at the Carlton Kinsale over the Easter school holidays. We got a great deal for 2bb1d and kids were free!!! We stayed in the adjoining apartments/houses and couldn't believe the ... luxury. The only downside to the house was that there was no bath (for bathing little ones who are still scared of the shower) and also, we had a spare bedroom seeing as we felt better with all the family sleeping on the one level. The house was amazing, very spacious and modern and the cleanliness of a very high standard. The breakfast buffet in the dining room of the hotel was great. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner and were charmed by the waiting staff who entertained our little ones. We ate in the bar on our first evening and were all very happy! (2 adults and 3 children under 7) The leisure centre is excellent and changing facilities were fantastic and all our needs catered for from plastic bags for wet gear to a travel cot for our little guy to play in while we got changed. Thank you to the very friendly and genuinely helpful staff of the Carlton Hotel Kinsale for such a great break. Having stayed also at the Carlton in Bunclody and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there, we found Kinsale just a step ahead. We will definitely be back, be it on our own as a couple or recommending as a girlie break away. ---

Short break - Apr 2010

This was our third visit. The staff seem to get friendlier and more helpful on each occasion. Whilst the Carlton is in the main excellent, just one comment (also a view of our neighbours) - because the bar is somewhat separated from the seating area it lacks the atmosphere normally felt in a bar.

Fabulous Overnight Break Away From The City

The relaxing natural surroundings, beautiful modern rooms, lobby, spa and pool facilities were a welcome treat for my husband and I on a short stay away from the city. We booked with the dinner for two ... and stay free promotion, and with the savings it gave us enough to both get massages at the spa. The food was great, the view was perfect, and the peace and quiet was very much appreciated. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We look forward to another break there and tell everyone what a nice time we had. ---

We stayed in the 'Garden Suites' October weekend 09 and we couldn't wait to return, and return we did in March last. Overall thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, we also enjoyed staying in the Carlton Bunclody & Carlton Westport.
